In-situ Cancerous Tissue Identification Instrumentation
Patented techniques and built a company to delivery into doctor’s hands a diagnostic instrument selecting in-situ cancerous tissues. Raised funding through NIH SBIRs, initial VC round, and industrial funding. Lead system engineering and building prototypes including clinical versions. Delivered human trial data from one of Harvard Medical school hospitals to allow development of diagnostic algorithm based on statistical principal component analysis; results provided for further VC rounds. |
Fluorescence-based Device for Renal Function Monitoring
A large US university hospital required development of a Proof of Concept (PoC) to measure fluorescence-based renal function in an animal study. Delivered an experimental benchtop instrument on a kidney filtration rate based. The concept was based on an UV laser excitable agent with the accuracy of clearance techniques and transport of plasma creatinine. Supported animal (rats) studies in their hospital lab to verify instrument functionality and feasibility. Studies results were published and provided foundation to a substantial NIH multi-year funding proposal. |
Disposable Endoscope
A large US medical device company required a feasibility study on a single use endoscope. Delivered clinical prototype where the imager and illumination (white LED) was in the distal end and illumination control was in the hand-held unit. Performed marketing assessment of the single use endoscope with a range of doctors. |
Multispectral Mammography Instrument Development
A medical device start-up required feasibility, evaluation, and assessment of multispectral transmission used for mammography instrumentation. Delivered engineering management/tech Lead guidance to the company including a "phase-gate development process" which resulted in a working proof-of-principal prototype. |
Blood Vessal Diameter Measurement Using OCT
The largest US-based medical instrumentation company requested an evaluation of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology for measurements of internal diameters of blood vessels (veins). Delivered an assessment report and patentable technical implementations on OCT for application scenarios. |
Endometrial Ablation Tip in-situ Placement Assesment
Evaluated for the largest US-based medical instrumentation company methods to confirm placement of endometrial ablation tip in situ. Delivered a report that included assessment of the methods, development time and potential production cost. |
Fluorescence-based in-situ Bladder Cancer Identification
The largest US-based medical instrumentation company required a technical lead of an animal study on a natural fluorescence (with UV illumination) device target bladder cancer. Organized and oversaw feasibility studies on the animal tissue samples and processed results of the cancer area detections. |
Assessment Between Scanning or Static Imaging Endoscope
A large US based medical instrumentation company required a technical feasibility evaluation between scanning and image device systems. Delivered a technical assessment covering system maturity, availability of potential suppliers and mass production and cost as a function of production methods. |
Operator Wakefulness Sensing
A large military company requested methods for passively determine pilot wakefulness in a combat situation. Developed methods to extract saccade information and cardiovascular information from retinal eye tracking to determine pilot's health and awareness situation under combat duress. |
