Military Aircraft Dual-Band Lidar
A large military equipment supplier required the redesign of a dual-band Lidar benchtop product currently flying in military aircraft with the intent to allow for automated assembly and volume reduction. Delivered optical and mechanical system design allowing for a 90% volume reduction, automated assembly savings weeks of assembly time, and metrology methods to calibrate and validate assembly. |
Lidar Models and Performance Analysis
A large international military electro-optics systems company required investigation and system analysis on feasibility of LiDAR for fixed and moveable wing aeronautical vehicles. Delivered a performance analysis and models for various operating environments to aid client’s customers on technology’s feasibility and cost impact in its development into products for various markets. |
Lidar Projects System Guidance
The largest US military systems supplier required lead oversight multi-year LiDAR projects on fixed and moveable wing platforms. Delivered required technical lead that included: - Authored the LiDAR’s concept of operations (ConOps) for short-, mid- and long-range scenarios, improved performance prediction model.- Provided systems performance predictions for all conditions required for Request For Information (RFI).- Subject Matter Expert (SME) oversight to include various test and operational plans, managed field test and analyzed results to provide estimate detection levels for various platforms and range scenarios.- Interacted with end users and aided company by field testing systems on fixed and moveable wing platforms and analyzed resulting data. |
Laser Weapon Alignment Process
A large military equipment supplier required a process to align a high fluence prototype laser weapon. Delivered, built and oversaw alignment system on >15 element prototype laser. Delivered automated designs for final manufactured system to be aligned with minimal of human interactions. |
Laser Weapon Analysis
A large military equipment supplier required analysis and mitigation of parasitics within a laser weapon prototype. Delivered parasitics and stray light analysis, standard operating procedures for mitigation methods. |
Multispectral Sensor Analysis
A large international military electro-optics supply company required system analysis for upgrade and modification of multispectral sensors on a multi-year contract. Developed specification requirements worked on and lead implementing this modification; authored test and calibration plans and lead their implementation. |
PIC OPA Development
A large military equipment supplier required concepts for LIDAR to be used for missile avoidance on commercial aircraft. Developed a concept of a Photonic Integrated Circuitry (PIC) Optical Phased Array (iOPA) and delivered it to the client. |
Avionic Display Illumination Design
A large military equipment supplier required the design and productization of an illumination system for an glass cockpit environment for use in military aircraft. Developed and fielded illumination system that provided a 20:1 color contrast across entire CIE 1967 range at 10,000 foot-candle environment while also not emitting any NIR radiation. Design was eventually produced in every avionic display worldwide and used until microdisplays began to supplant LCDs (circa 2018). |
Retinal ET Design
A large military equipment supplier required the design and productization of an retinal eye tracking (ET) system. ET was needed for controlling additional weaponry on moveable wing and tank platforms. Designed and implemented camera-based retinal ET and which was the first such system to be widely used until micro-camera ET systems (circa 2010). |
