Human-Robot Rangefinder
A large industrial automation multinational company required several new products for human/robotic interaction volumes in an industrial safety environment. Designed, developed and delivered range finding systems to allow safe interactions between robots and their interacting human operators in large (>10M/yr) internal and external manufacturing partners. |
Proximity Safety Sensor
A large industrial automation multinational company required a redesign of their optical proximity safety sensors for smaller form factors and to lower production costs. Delivered design and manufacturing process (10M/yr range) to their internal semi-automated production lines. |
Opto package for a PIC ROADM
A Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) start-up needed an opto-thermal-electrical package for a reconfigurable add/drop multiplexor (ROADM). Package design and manufacturing process to handle MIL-SPC 810 requirements was delivered to internal semi-automated team for moderate (1M/yr) production levels. |
Laser Patterning Device
A Boston start-up required conversion a proof-of-concept laser patterning device into a manufacturable system. Delivered a class 1K optics assembly and metrology methods for a manufacturable ready system into their production team for limited (<100k/yr) manual process. |
Optical Transmission Improvement
A large multinational social media company required a system to enhance optical throughput without interfering with communications antennae. Delivered process methods to research teams with optical transmission improvements and reduced antennae interference. |
AR/VR Image Projector
A large multinational social media company required a system to convey image information to the user within a headset system. Technical Lead on supplying a solution from concept to a proof of principle. |
Telecom Pump Combiner
A Boston start-up required a path to automation for their heterogeneous pump telecom product. Delivered an analysis of various paths dependent on market maturity and level of desired automation. |
Photonic Band-gap Fiber Production Process
A custom automation company required a process to produce photonic band-gap fiber on a plastic optical fiber pull tower. Authored Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the tower and delivered and trained client on its uses for various desired operating parameters. |
Acceptance Standard for Optical/Plastic Components
A large automation multinational company required an acceptance standard for production of injected molded glass and plastic optical parts. Authored and delivered into their external and internal partners a company standard and trained all personnel on metrolgy methods. |
Thermographic Imagery
A large military equipment supplier required a method to verify thin film transistor element on LCD panels in large scale manufacturing. Developed and implemented into production methods to image thermographic imagery of TFT stress testing during manufacturing so that laser trimming could be used for individual transistor correction. System was used from starting with all avionics systems of the 1980's. An additional method of inspection using the complex impedance of each TFT was also designed and implemented into production at same timeframe (circa 1985) with correction of either laser trimming (different type to different part of TFT) or using spare peripheral TFTs if trimming correction was not possible. Method has been used since this introduction for any TFT or distributed activation. |
